New School Building

The original Notre Dame School building was built at a cost of $238,000 and along the simplest and most functional lines possible. There were no frills, not even on the Sisters’ habits. For the first students, it was perfect. If the Archdiocese was fortunate in having the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Halifax staff the new school, the students were equally blest. These Sisters would set the foundation for the future. In particular, credit must be given to Sr. Alice Michael, Notre Dame’s first Principal. She was, without a doubt, an administrator “par excellence”. She believed that a school should educate the whole person and with her awesome intelligence, foresight and energy, she implemented the structure on which all future Principal’s would build.

The 50’s were only the beginning of course ... 56 years later, a huge new step is about to be taken!

Where will you be on April 7, 2010?

At the same place, we hope; only this time with our children and their children who will be the fortunate students to enjoy the most expensive project ever undertaken by the Archdiocese of Vancouver.

Will they enjoy it as much as we did?
I don’t know but I really hope so.

Will they appreciate it as much as they should?
That would be great, but not likely?

Like us, the current students will probably have to be a bit older to know how important this school will play in who they are.
